Sahara Smith Breaks Out of Texas

21-year-old, Texas-based singer-songwriter Sahara Smith will make her NYC debut with 3 shows starting on June 14, where she’ll showcase her just-completed debut of original songs ‘Myth of the Heart’ (coming out in August, Playing In Traffic), produced by Emile Kelman and shepherded by T Bone Burnett. While on tour supporting Mason Jennings, Sahara will perform with her full band: Jake Owen (guitar), Will Sexton (guitar/bass) and Mike Meadows (drums/percussion). See schedule below.

With a voice that’s been described as “a potent mix of whiskey and molasses” (Direct Current), the rising star started performing at age 12 and first garnered national attention at age 15 when she placed second in a contest for young songwriters on A Prairie Home Companion.

Sahara is poised for a breakout with the release of ‘Myth of the Heart,’ which features many of Burnett’s first-call session players, including drummer Jay Bellerose, guitarist Marc Ribot, and bassist Dennis Crouch. More details on the album will be revealed soon.
