From “Eyebeam” to SPEAK, Creativity Runs in the Hurt Family

It’s not surprising to learn that Nick Hurt is the singer/guitarist of the edgy and innovative band, SPEAK, when you know the story of Nick’s father.

Sam Hurt began formulating a comic strip he called “Eyebeam” while he was a student at the University of Texas. It only took a few years before Austin’s daily newspaper, The American-Statesman, picked up on the comic strip, eventually spawning several published collections and a spin-off comic strip called “Peaches.”  Creative blood certainly runs in the Hurt Family!
