Los Lonely Boys on NPR Weekend Edition
NPR digs deep into Los Lonely Boys formative years, tougher times, and the meanings behind songs on “Rockpango”
“The group has been through tough times together, on stage and off. Most recently, Jojo Garza sustained a vocal cord injury that made him constantly raspy and threatened to grow worse the more he used his voice. He and his brothers feared that he might never talk again, let alone sing.
Thankfully, he pulled through the ordeal. Henry Garza says Jojo’s vocals on the Rockpango track ‘Smile’ will always remind him of those difficult days and the joy he felt when they came to an end.
“‘When we tracked that song, I just cried my eyes out,” he says. “I could cry right now.’”
Rockpango: First Impressions
Los Lonely Boys burst out the starting gate with their new studio album ROCKPANGO, wrapping up a promotional tour which included blowing the roof of NBC studios at The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno (with a shout out from Russel Brand backstage), an introduction by Weeds star Enrique Castillo at the Padres Contra El Cancer Benefit in LA, taping Weekend Edition for NPR, radio shows at KFOG, KPRI, and KGSR, and a packed homecoming Waterloo Records instore performance in Austin.
