Sahara Smith was included in yesterday’s issue of the New York times in an article called The Texas Shuffle.

With the holiday gifting season in full swing, the owners of three independent record stores in Texas selected their favorite recent local releases.  Sahara’s debut, Myth of the Heart, is John Kunz of Waterloo Records’ pick.

At 22, the native of Wimberley, about 30 miles southwest of Austin, is practically a grizzled veteran, having emerged at 15 as a finalist in a young songwriters contest on “A Prairie Home Companion.” Her debut album was overseen by T-Bone Burnett and the producer Emile Kelman.

“She has a little of the high, plaintive sound to her voice that Emmylou Harris and Alison Krauss have, but there are also tinges of yearning and loneliness,” Mr. Kunz said. “There’s a confident nature to her that comes through on the record and a real simplicity to everything that I think is unusual. She’s young, sure, but it takes maturity to distill a song down to its simple essence. I guess you could say she’s wise beyond her years.”

Sahara Smith makes her national television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman this Wednesday, November 24!
