SPEAK presented Best New Band by the Talking Heads
March 24, 2010 (Austin, TX) A year after making their first SXSW appearance, smart-pop outfit, SPEAK, wins the Austin Music Award for Best New Band, an honor bestowed by voters in the yearly poll hosted by the Austin Chronicle. At the star-studded awards ceremony last Saturday, the band strode on stage to accept their award from one of their greatest musical inspirations, the Talking Heads.
SPEAK guitarist Nick Hurt recalls “standing next to [the Talking Heads] in the green room but we didn’t want to be like ‘woah’ and freak out. Jerry Harrison introduced the award and we went on stage. Afterward, Chris Frantz said ‘keep up the exceptional work.’ They were super nice—overly nice.”
SPEAK on MTV’s Real World Tonight!
It seems that the folks over at MTV have a sweet tooth for the irresistible pop songs of SPEAK. Tonight, they place “You Know As Well” for the second time in the hit reality series The Real World. Tune in at 10/9c!
Troupe Gammage records with JET
September 4, 2009 (Austin, TX) –Troupe Gammage of local pop-rock group Speak is featured on the new, much anticipated album, Shaka Rock, from the Australian rock band JET. He lends his revered keyboard skills prominently on three of their tracks – a featured collabo that came about from fellow Austin producer Chris “Frenchie” Smith.
