This Thursday April 29, local smart pop quartet SPEAK give back to the vibrant music scene that nurtured their success at the Show ‘N Tell Benefit at The Mohawk. Recently bestowed with Best New Band honors at the Austin Music Awards, the group teams up with local non-profit Groundwork Music Project which facilitates music education for Austin preschools that lack the funding to host their own programs
One can trace SPEAK’s formation from a young age, as members were actively involved in Grammy Camp, Longhorn Music Camp, formal classes at University of Texas, and the National Guitar Workshop. Currently, guitarist Nick Hurt and bassist Joey Delahoussaye teach at the Orpheus Academy of Music.
Programs like those provided by Groundwork kick-started SPEAK, whose recent milestones include their first release on Playing in Traffic Records, a SXSW showcase, and personal congratulations from the Talking Heads.
Tickets are $5 with Do512 RSVP or Phoenix/Stubb’s ticket stub. All proceeds go to Groundwork Music Project.
The show kicks off at 8:00pm with a happy hour sponsored by Lone Star and Deep Eddy Vodka. Sponsors Do512, Sanctuary Printshop, NadaMoo, Austin Chronicle, and Birds Barbershop provide prizes all night. Photobooth by Trevor Ray Thompson.
